International Competition
Qualifying meets and qualifying totals for Canadian athletes at international Masters competitions — 2025.03.12
Canadian athletes wishing to qualify for an international masters competition must have met the minimum standards required at a WCHM sanctioned competition, including doping control.
WCHM sanctioned events include Provincial Masters Championships, Canadian Masters Championships, Provincial or Canadian Senior Championships, or any other WCHM or IMWA sanctioned event that includes doping control.
Athletes may not qualify for international Masters events at local competitions. In addition, athletes wishing to qualify must be members in good standing of WCHM and their respective provincial/territorial weightlifting federation or Weightlifting Canada Haltérophilie, WCH, if none exists.
Requesting approval to participate means to:
– Contact the National Chair on website contact page.
– Provide your full name, age category, bodyweight category, qualifying competition and qualifying total.
When approved, further instructions will be provided. An Access Code is only issued for the World Masters Championships and that is only done after the registration pre-payment is made to our Federation.
You can only register for an international competition if you are approved. If you are not approved to participate and your name is on the Start List, the National Chair will contact you. Your name will be removed from the Start List, unless an acceptable explanation is provided.
To all WCHM members who compete both within Canada and internationally are reminded to ensure that they must have appropriate and adequate medical coverage. Members should not be relying solely on their provincial health plans (as we know they are not all equal) and carefully check their private health plans. Contact your medical plan advisor if you are not sure of your coverage.
For your protection: online competitions. If you are using sensitive documents for proof of identification (example, your driver’s license), it is advised to cover up your address, Driver’s License number or other government-issued numbers. Your name and birthdate should be sufficient.
Please renew your Provincial Weightlifting Association Membership. An up-to-date Provincial Weightlifting Association membership is also required to participate in all WCHM sanctioned events, nationally and internationally, and to be eligible for any records or awards.

Members who would like to qualify for an international masters competition must have met the minimum standards required at a WCHM sanctioned competition, including doping control. WCHM sanctioned events are those events that are admissible for establishing or breaking Canadian Masters Weightlifting Records.
Athletes may not qualify for international Masters events at local or regional competitions. In addition, athletes wishing to qualify must be members in good standing of WCHM and their respective provincial/territorial weightlifting associations. This requirement must be met prior to the start of the competition in which the athlete wishes to qualify.
For special exceptions to the foregoing, please contact the WCHM President for consideration on a discretionary basis.
