Donna Powers, RCSHom, CCH, RSHom (NA), Instructor
My training in classical homeopathy began later in life as a result of an exhausting search for ways to help my children who had been diagnosed with learning disabilities and ADD/ADHD. In homeopathy I found a healing modality that philosophically resonated with all I understood about body, mind, emotions and spirit. It was like coming home…comfortable, easy and complex all at the same time!
Since graduating in 2001 from the 4-year program at the Vancouver Homeopathic Academy, I have invested yearly by studying with the leading international homeopaths that are deepening and refining the system of homeopathic healing through what is known as the Sensation Method. I have been in seminar with Dr. Rajan Sankaran, Dr. Divya Chaabra, and Dr. Jayesh Shah. Most recently I have had the great honor of co-coordinating with the Vancouver Homeopathic Academy, a series of ten seminars with Dr. Sunil Anand teaching the Sensation Method to post graduate students.
In September 2008, the Council for Homeopathic Certification certified me as a homeopath trained in the classical tradition and philosophy. I am a member of the Canadian Society of Homeopaths and the North American Society of Homeopaths (NASH). During my years as a student, I enjoyed being a regular contributor to the NASH newsletter for homeopathic professionals. Writing is an important part of my work as a homeopath and I have been a contributor to the West Coast Homeopathic Society, the Canadian Society of Homeopaths and have had work published in the National Centre for Homeopathy’s magazine Homeopathy Today, a lay person’s guide to healing through homeopathy.
As my children were growing, I developed an interest in the subject of vaccines. Both the boys had been vaccinated and as I began my journey with homeopathy, my research leads me to question two issues: the safety of them and the freedom to choose whether to vaccinate at all. I have educated myself by studying online with Sheri Nakken and recently attended a conference in Reston, Virginia with Barbara Loe Fisher of the National Vaccine Information Centre. Helping parents and families with resources and information so that they can make healthy choices regarding vaccination is a part of my homeopathic practice.
Our search for healing and wholeness often begins in the home, often painfully as we seek to help our loved ones…or even ourselves so that we can care/provide for others. As I have studied and learned homeopathy, first as a parent and then as a professional, I have been able to observe firsthand, the beauty, simplicity and profound healing that is to be found within this modality. That there is a school now in Calgary, Alberta is incredibly exciting. I look forward to the knowing the first graduating class of homeopaths who will affect the healing opportunities within the boundaries of this city and beyond.
